Over the course of time, many translations of the Qur’an have been written by Muslims and non-muslim writers alike, using various techniques in their translations. However, despite these numerous translations, there was always in search of a book that would provide the essence and message of the Qur’an in simple format to be read and understood by people of all degrees of faith from every type of background.

When writing this book, it was not my intention to provide a one-to-one translation but rather to emphasize and focus on the essence and messages of the Qur’an that will help Muslims deal with modern day issues and non-muslims can get better understanding of the Qur’an. It is our prime objective to seek guidance from the Qur’an as Allah (S) said in Suratul Baqara, “This is the book, without any doubt, in it Guidance sure for the Muttaqeen (pious and righteous persons)”.

This verse provided me with a great source of motivation during the preparation of this book. The books and other sources that were primarily consulted were the translations of Yusuf Ali, Mohammad Sarwar, other existing translations, and simple Arabic dictionary on Qur’anic words, various hadith, life of the Prophet (P), and certain level of knowledge of the modern science, contemporary socio-political and economic problems. A greater effort has been given to use the modern English language with simple and well-known vocabularies.

The essence and the messages in the verses on different subject have been expressed in the way one speaks English rather than ‘one to one’ translation of the verses. Furthermore, all the subject matter is selected on the basis of pressing issues and needs of modern day life, and the verses blonging to a specific subject within a chapter (Surah) have been organised as paragraphs in order to help the reader to relate to the subject matter and understand its essence easily.

BOOK STRUCTURE

This book has been compiled in simple English language (it avoids using classical and uncommon words). It is based on various translations of the Qu’ran focusing on the essential guidance in the light of modern day issues and problems Muslims are facing all over the world. The book includes two Table of Contents: The first one is categorized according to various subjects, and the second one is structured in alphabetical order. This is done to facilitate reference and subject search.
